Every week Johann Sebastian Bach led the Collegium Musicum, a student orchestra, in Gottfried Zimmermann's coffee house. Around this time he wrote the Coffee Cantata, a comic piece about a girl who would rather give up a husband than her coffee, to words by Picander. The venue and the cantata are real; this evening's talk is imagined.
