When Prasutagus, king of the Iceni, died, he left half his kingdom to his daughters and half to the Roman Emperor, hoping to keep his family safe. Instead Roman officials seized everything, had his widow Boudica flogged and abused her daughters. Boudica gathered the tribes of Britain around her. The Roman historian Cassius Dio described her as very tall, with a mass of red-gold hair to her hips, a great golden torc and a spear in her hand. Here she speaks to the tribes before the revolt. The words are imagined.
