The Golden Tea Room

Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the peasant's son who unified Japan, had a portable tea room built entirely of gold leaf and showed it at the Imperial Palace in 1586. His tea master Sen no Rikyū preferred rough black bowls and plain huts. Five years later Hideyoshi ordered Rikyū's death. Tokugawa Ieyasu, who would found the next shogunate, joins them for tea. The conversation is imagined.
