Six-year-old Wolfgang Mozart and his sister Nannerl played for Empress Maria Theresa at Schönbrunn. Their father Leopold wrote home that Wolfgang jumped onto the Empress's lap and kissed her. Family legend adds that he slipped on the polished floor, was helped up by the little archduchess Maria Antonia, the future Marie Antoinette, and promised to marry her. The visit is documented; the words are imagined.
